When I asked a Chinese friend about the "High Context Culture" list I posted below, she said: "不识庐山真面目,只缘身在此山中" ("I can't tell the true shape of Lu Mountain because I'm on the mountain").
Note that there's an interesting juxtaposition of passages (or the "Olympic Match up," as William Moss titles it) from Brooks and Fallows, respectively, on Image Thief.
