Dial-a-ride in Guangzhou

Finally checked out Ping Pong, a new, brick-walled rhum bar located at 星海音乐学院后门(the back gate of the Xinghai Music Academy). The decor's industrial chic (a la Beijing's 798 Art District) and the libations are reasonably priced. Flagging a taxi from there, however, is almost impossible. A friend recommended dialing 96900. The taxi was there within 15 minutes. Some operators speak English.
